Duke Energy will transport a massive transformer from Charlotte to the Cowans Ford Hydroelectric Power Plant on Lake Norman on April 3 — the unit is 158 feet long, over 16 feet tall, nearly 24 feet wide and weighs 460,496 pounds. Lincoln County officials will restrict traffic from 1 to 5 a.m. by posting warning message boards along NC Highway 73 and issuing reverse 911 calls.

On Tuesday, Duke Health finalized its $248 million purchase of the 123-bed Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville and renamed it Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital after a ceremony. The deal came six months after Novant Health abandoned plans to acquire the hospital—expanding Duke Health’s services beyond Raleigh.

Hop Into Spring will take place Saturday, April 5 from 2 pm to 4 pm at James Hoyt Wilhelm Park behind Cornelius Elementary for children ages 3-10 and their families, offering crafts, music, face painting, a glitter tattoo artist, inflatables plus a visit from Peter Cottontail. All activities are free except the Easter Egg Scramble, which requires advance registration and costs $3 for nonresidents.
