- ➤ Volunteers are out surveying the unhoused population in Mecklenburg County as part of the Point in Time count, with Julie Kay providing the latest update. The effort is ongoing to help local agencies assess community needs. WCNC

- ➤ The Huntersville Fire Department held its first awards ceremony at the Jan. 6 town board meeting to honor firefighters who rescued residents from house fires on Aug. 29 off Rocky Ford Club Road and on Oct. 5 off Rich Hatchett Road (earning Company Citations and a Medal of Valor). - ➤ Mecklenburg County will host a kickoff meeting on Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. at (10735 David Taylor Drive, Suite 250) to plan FY2026-2027 CDBG funding for public projects. Applications for funding, including in Huntersville, are accepted from Jan. 27 to Feb. 27. Mecklenburg County News

- ➤ MEDIC is urging residents to avoid the roads during this weekend’s winter storm as additional trucks and extra staff will be deployed in Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson to respond to urgent calls (real-time adjustments target areas hit hardest by the weather). WSOCTV.com
- ➤ Health officials confirmed two measles cases in Mecklenburg County on Jan. 22, with an adult linked to a traveler and an unvaccinated child who was in contact with someone from Spartanburg (South Carolina). Both patients are isolating at home as officials urge residents to update their MMR vaccination. WBTV
- ➤ The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 1.5M bottles of Angry Orange Enzyme Stain Remover sold at local stores and online from March 2019 to Dec. 2025 because they may contain bacteria that cause infections; Huntersville buyers are advised to stop using the cleaner and contact Boston-based Thrasio for a refund (follow the disposal instructions).
