  • Volunteers are holding a PIT Count in Huntersville as a winter storm nears to track homelessness and guide resource planning for care. The count will help local agencies direct support where it is most needed.  WSOCTV.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mecklenburg County and the town of Huntersville opened a permanent Veterans Services office in the new Town Hall this month. The office offers walk-in services Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 14704 N. Old Statesville Road — led by Veteran Service Officer Culeen Shafer.  Lake Norman Publications
  • CMPD explained when to call 911 for emergencies and when to dial 311 for non-urgent issues to keep emergency lines clear for critical calls. Officials advised residents to follow these guidelines for a rapid police response.  WCNC

HEALTH NEWS

  • With a major storm pending, Huntersville residents are advised to secure extra propane, food coolers, and a thermometer to maintain food safety if power is lost. Experts note that pre-cooking comfort meals & using the grill can help keep food safe until the storm passes.  WCNC
  • Health officials held a virtual briefing Friday to discuss two confirmed measles cases in Mecklenburg County + the department is monitoring the situation for further updates.  WCNC
  • Union County Public Health Director Traci Colley issued more than 170 quarantine orders after a measles exposure linked to an unvaccinated child at Shining Light Baptist Academy in Monroe. Health officials advise residents to check their vaccination records as quarantine lasts for 21 days.  WSOCTV.com

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • With winter temperatures falling, Huntersville residents are urged to insulate exposed pipes (in garages, basements, and by outdoor hose bibs) by letting faucets drip and closing garage doors to prevent freezing and burst risks; homeowners should thaw pipes safely and call a plumber if water pressure drops.  WSOCTV.com
