CRIME NEWS

  • A mother expressed gratitude as police arrested a man nearly two months after her son died in a crash on Feb. 23rd along Sam Furr Road near Black Farms Road in Huntersville — he faces charges including second-degree murder, DWI, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana, speeding and traveling left of the centerline.  WSOCTV.com
  • A former Mecklenburg County Superior Court judge, Casey Viser, faces felony cocaine charges after a vehicle stop on Monday for fake tags led officers to find cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and an open container of alcohol—he resigned from the bench in 2022 and is now out on bond.  WSOCTV.com
  • Garry Lackey faces a second degree murder charge after a crash left Dawson Oliver dead in Huntersville.  WCNC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County leaders praised final plans for reimagined Latta Place near Huntersville, which will include a new visitors' center, walking trail, and tributes to past residents while keeping the historic Latta House intact. Construction documents and permits are expected to finish later this year—construction will begin from late 2025 into 2026, though outgoing County Manager Dena Diorio will not see the project completed.  Queen City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital launched its Hospital at Home program in February to treat children at home with nurse visits & video calls. The program treated 50 patients so far and will expand to free up hospital beds for more pediatric care.  WSOCTV.com

  • Stephen and Laura Leontsinis from the Cayman Islands bought a lakefront home in Denver on a 1.3-acre wooded lot after visiting Lake Norman during a Christmas trip in 2023 and several trips last year; they spent about $2.58 million plus roughly $250,000—$300,000 on renovations and now call it 'White Lotus' as it welcomed its first guests this month.  WSOCTV.com
