  • The Belmont chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is installing a mural that honors local Revolutionary War heroes ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday — it will be displayed in Belmont to celebrate this historic milestone.  WCNC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seventh-grader Victoria Alvear Rodríguez from Southwest Middle School was named National Ambassador during the Do the Write Thing ceremony held Monday, April 27 at the Charlotte Police and Fire Training Academy. She and her teacher Erika (Rikki) Jarrett will travel to Washington, D.C. in July to join the National Campaign to Stop Violence Recognition Week.  Mecklenburg County News
  • A local women’s organization awarded CMS students $90K in scholarships — a sum intended to support academic success — as part of efforts to boost education in Huntersville. The awards will help students prepare for further studies.  WSOCTV.com

  • Funds were approved for the I-277 rail trail bridge project that will connect Uptown and South End, and Councilwoman Dante Anderson said the bridge will reconnect neighborhoods (separated by the interstate).  WCNC
