- ➤ On April 10, the Alexandriana Chapter of the DAR held its awards ceremony at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius to recognize local youths and adults for their work in literacy, American history, and community service. - ➤ Huntersville town board unanimously approved the Mission Stumptown Road mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Stumptown and Statesville roads adjacent to I-77; the 19-acre project breaks zoning rules by allowing 100% attached housing with seven multifamily buildings totaling 247 units, a clubhouse, and six commercial buildings while developers will include 16 attainable housing units for at least 15 years—meeting goals of the Huntersville 2040 Community Plan. The board also invoked eminent domain to secure land from Ambassador Christian School for electric service to the Coventry Glen Subdivision project, added two speed humps to Dellwood Drive, and approved a new mobility plan for safer travel. - ➤ NCDOT announced that Gilead Road will close over I-77 tonight at 10 p.m.—this closure is for the final lift of surface on the new $30.8 million diverging diamond and the road will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday with law enforcement directing detour traffic. Cornelius Today
