- ➤ On May 15, Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio proposed a $2.5 billion budget that increases spending by 1.6% and raises the county tax rate by 0.96 cent to 49.27 cents per $100 of assessed value. The proposal cuts $13.8 million in discretionary funding as it aims to boost economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and services for seniors—reflecting slower revenue growth than expenses.
