COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mecklenburg County will shape a 38-acre piece of Huntersville farmland off Brown Mill Road into a community space for agriculture, conservation and recreation as it gathers public input on two master plan proposals. A public feedback session is scheduled for June 3 from 5 to 7 p.m.+county officials plan to complete the master plan by August in a phased, multi-year process.  WCNC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On May 28, local business and community leaders gathered at the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Small Business Week – winners included Liz and Mike Marlow from AlphaGraphics, Zach Weir and Levi Bretz from Freedom Boat Club, Angela Fluck from Nothing Bundt Cakes in Huntersville, and the Alexander siblings from David Alexander Electric – with awards presented by Novant Health's Huntersville Medical Center.  Business Today NC
  • Yesterday, construction resumed on the nine-acre site along West Catawba Avenue after the planned 7-Eleven was replaced by a convenience store and daycare operation—base infrastructure work including the Nantz Road connector and site stabilization to limit erosion is underway. Town planner Aaron Tucker said the project approved in November 2018 will eventually include a gas pump, car wash and a 45,000 square foot office building.  Cornelius Today

  • Councilwoman Tiawana Brown will hold her first town hall since her indictment—she maintains her innocence and continues serving in her elected role.  WCNC
  • The North Carolina DMV is expanding walk-in hours for Real ID applications at select locations starting with Saturday services, and Huntersville residents can visit the Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road location. Applicants must bring a Social Security number and documents like a birth certificate or passport—other locations include Charlotte, Monroe, and Salisbury.  WSOCTV.com
