Boat Host registration is open for the 21st annual Big Day at the Lake on July 19 at Lake Norman, where over 75 hosts will guide Big Brothers Big Sisters children and their mentors on a morning boat ride.
The event will end with a picnic for more than 600 participants — local sponsors and organizers support the full day of activities.

Huntersville Police said a missing 4-year-old girl named Lila Willis is believed to be with her biological mother Jennifer Glackin — who has active warrants — after her gray Honda Civic was last seen near Gilead Road and Commerce Center Drive early Friday morning.

NC's Aishwarya Kallakuri from Concord placed 4th in a prestigious national spelling bee—she earned her spot among the top spellers in the nation.

On Thursday, Mecklenburg County Commissioners voted to reduce Crisis Assistance Ministry's funding to $396,250—13% below the 2024 amount, a move that may freeze staff positions and limit services for families facing eviction or utility issues.
The final budget vote will take place next Thursday.
