Good morning, Huntersville.
🏘️ Community
Mecklenburg County Animal Care & Control introduced its Lost to Found program today — the new concept featured a stray dog on TV to help reunite pets with their owners.
Residents are urged to scan a QR code and share the dog's profile as the program uses facial recognition to match lost pet sightings with shelters.
🌲 Environment
Due to the ongoing drought, several local splash pads are closed indefinitely, including North Mecklenburg Park’s Lily Splash Pad (in Huntersville), Beattys Ford Park’s splash pad in Denver, and the Hope Park splash pad in Mooresville.
Splash pads using recycled water, along with Lake Norman State Park’s beach, remain open.
🏛️ Government
Mecklenburg County said Tuesday that the Carolina Raptor Center requested to end its 20-year lease at the Quest Building in Latta Nature Preserve after a $1 million investment; the center will keep classroom access for up to 30 hours of monthly events while county park officials guide its master planning.
Mecklenburg County officials urge Huntersville residents to bring rechargeable batteries to county recycling centers after fires at Foxhole Landfill and on a trash truck highlighted the risks of improper disposal (devices like phones, smart watches and power tools are included).
Single-use batteries should be tossed in the trash.
