BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bricks and Minifigs opened 18 months ago in Huntersville after testing its LEGO resale business in a family garage and now operates as an authorized shop at Northcross shopping center, offering certified used and new LEGO sets along with loose bricks and unique items. CRIME NEWS

  • A man said he was driving home on I-85 Tuesday morning when a gunman in a black Ford F-150 with a bright yellow shirt fired three shots that shattered his truck’s windows and injured his left arm—he said the attacker was trying to kill him over something minor before he stopped at a weigh station near Gaston and Mecklenburg County lines.  WSOCTV.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mecklenburg County invites locals to review and comment on plans to improve housing, community development, and economic opportunities; feedback is accepted until July 21. The county will hold a public hearing on July 17 at 3:30 p.m. at the Centralina Regional Council in Charlotte—comments may also be submitted online or by email.  Mecklenburg County News
  • Mecklenburg County will give free box fans to seniors 60 and older and adults who receive disability income; residents register online or by phone and can pick up a fan starting June 25 at select centers — including the David B. HEALTH NEWS

  • Atrium’s new hospital in Cornelius is set to open July 1 as it finishes interior work, continues hiring staff, and prepares for a ribbon-cutting tomorrow—more than 300 employees, with about 60 percent of positions filled, will help provide services like emergency care, imaging, and labor support. The $250 million facility will also add a 72,000-square-foot office building this fall while keeping its nearby emergency room operational.  Cornelius Today
