Good morning, Huntersville. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 10th of July.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein signed a law called the Projects for Advancing Vehicle‑Infrastructure Enhancements Act that lets Mecklenburg County hold a 1-cent sales tax referendum in November to fund new transit and road improvements—Huntersville is set to get $11 million in its first year for intersection upgrades, street lighting and sidewalks. The tax is expected to support bus service enhancements, rail projects including the long-awaited Red Line commuter rail, and other vital roadway safety measures.  Lake Norman Publications
  • Governor Stein signed Senate Bill 391 on July 1, 2025, authorizing cities and counties to install speed cameras in school zones beginning October 1—drivers caught speeding will incur a $250 fine without license points. Cameras will be in areas with warning signs posted 1,000 feet ahead, and drivers have 30 days to pay or appeal tickets.  Queen City News
