- ➤ Teen Jack Williams, a rising senior at Hough High School, organized a book drive that collected 2,000 books for underprivileged children in Huntersville — he planned the drive with support from his school and family and distributed bundles at a summer celebration. His project built on four years of volunteer work as a reading buddy and brought joy to many local children. Lake Norman Publications
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A local 13-year-old boy—who lost part of his right leg in a shark attack in August 2022—shared his story on Good Morning America Wednesday and is now returning to the reef while working to resume pitching in baseball after six surgeries. WSOCTV.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mooresville town officials, including Mayor Chris Carney and several town board incumbents, will face challengers in November while candidates in Cornelius, Huntersville and Davidson contest mayoral, board and school seats — filings closed on July 18th — as voters prepare for a series of municipal elections. - ➤ Huntersville commissioners approved rezonings for two development proposals after months of negotiations with developers who revised their plans. One project by Alexandriana Partners will include artwork as a gateway to the town and eight affordable housing units — while North State Development’s proposal will be a mixed-use building with retail space and two affordable units. - ➤ MotoSurf racers from Czechia, led by world’s fastest female Eliška Matoušková, raced on Lake Norman this past weekend as the sport gains popularity; local competitors such as Antony Squire and the Burk duo will compete at the World Games in China—set to begin on Aug. 15—boosting international exposure.
