- ➤ Mecklenburg County continues to distribute free box fans to seniors aged 60 or older and disabled adults aged 18 to 59 as high temperatures persist. Residents must show a driver’s license or state ID and prove a Mecklenburg County address at any of the ten donation sites—one site currently has no fans available—while supplies last. - ➤ On July 30, Mecklenburg County held its final meeting on transportation issues and a possible sales tax increase at West Charlotte Recreation Center, with Commissioner Vilma Leake leading the session from 6 to 7:30 p.m. CATS presented details on current services and expansion plans – the board will vote on adding the referendum to the November ballot after the public hearing on August 6. - ➤ Mecklenburg County mailed 2025 tax bills on July 29 for real property, individual personal property, and business personal property taxes with bills due Sept. 1 and final payment needed by Jan. 5 to avoid interest—about 458,000 bills were sent and additional ones will be mailed for properties under appeal. - ➤ Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is launching a new girls volleyball league for ages 11-13 with registration open from Aug 1 through Sept 5 and games scheduled on Tuesday evenings at Ray's Splash Planet + Wallace Pruitt Recreation Center.
