EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board held a back-to-school briefing to introduce a new safety protocol called 'I Love U Guys'—a plan that guides crisis responses and urges parents to use Infinite Campus. On Monday, 141,000 students and 19,000 staff will return to classrooms as reports show that gun-related incidents have declined since the 2021 to 2022 school year.  WSOCTV.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • State regulators conditionally approved plans for Atrium Health to add 76 beds with a new five-story tower at its Concord hospital and for Novant Health to build a new 50-bed hospital in Concord. Atrium Health will start work in January 2029 and finish by May 1, 2031, while Novant Health will begin construction in July 2027 and open on Jan 1, 2030 — both groups have until Aug 25 to appeal the decision — which will boost hospital capacity in Cabarrus County.  WSOCTV.com
