- ➤ The former King’s College dorms will be converted into 64 transitional housing units for homeless men and veterans—providing safe living spaces with access to support services. WCNC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials from Charlotte-area counties held a nuclear drill Tuesday for a simulated radioactive leak at McGuire Nuclear Station in Huntersville. Lincoln County emergency coordinator Mark Howell said law enforcement, EMS, public health and local schools practiced sheltering students until safe evacuation as FEMA observed the exercise. - ➤ On August 24, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced an extra $28 million in reimbursement funds for Hurricane Helene recovery, raising North Carolina’s total to $124 million. The money will pay for road repairs, debris removal, and infrastructure restoration. WSOCTV.com
