GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Office of the Tax Collector reached record achievements in collecting taxes for the budget year ended June 30th—completing 99.5% of property tax collections that exceeded $2 billion and gathering $180 million in business taxes. These revenues totaling nearly $2.28 billion will support county programs and essential services. Mecklenburg County News
- ➤ Officer William 'Bill' Broadway—award-winning for his life-saving service—died after battling advanced cholangiocarcinoma; his funeral is scheduled today at Lake Forest Church and he leaves behind a wife and son. Lake Norman Publications
- ➤ The Huntersville board met to update zoning rules and approved the rezoning of an 11.26-acre parcel on McCord Road — a request by Robert and Heather Dubiel to shift the land from General Residential to Transitional Residential. Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Hunt led the meeting in the absence of Mayor Christy Clark while the board also passed text amendments and held a closed session for an employee review. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mecklenburg County will co-host a free, all-day opioid conference at the Charlotte Convention Center on Sept. 15 (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to share new settlement data and updates on treatment, recovery, and community care. Leaders, advocates and professionals will join simulation exercises and interactive sessions to improve responses to the crisis. Mecklenburg County News

- ➤ The Carolina Panthers are trading wide receiver Adam Thielen to the Minnesota Vikings in a deal that sends a conditional 7th round pick in 2026 and a 5th round pick in 2027 to the Vikings while the Panthers receive a 5th round pick next year and a 4th round pick in 2027. Thielen— a Minnesota native who started his NFL career with the Vikings— had over 1,000 receiving yards for the Panthers after joining in 2023. WSOCTV.com
- ➤ A groundbreaking ceremony will mark the start of the Jerry Richardson Stadium expansion as crews will add a new tower with premium seating — suites, an indoor club, and a patio space — over the next few years. WCNC
