- ➤ Yesterday, the North Meck Community Farmers Market moved three of its five events to evening hours after a trial nighttime market in August proved popular with local shoppers. The market, now held at Cornelius Town Hall, will feature local breweries including Eleven Lakes and will host remaining sessions on Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, and Oct. 8. Cornelius Today
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a school board meeting in Charlotte on Tuesday night, CMS board member Summer Nunn warned that teachers may leave for South Carolina if the state does not finish its budget by the July 1 deadline—an issue that leaves promised raises unfunded. The board is working with regional districts to send a unified message to the state legislature about fair teacher compensation and flexible calendars. Queen City News

- ➤ Voters in Huntersville will decide on November 4 on a sales tax referendum that would fund improvements to roads and expand the Red Line rail connecting Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, and Mooresville to downtown Charlotte. The proposal comes after a deadly light rail stabbing that has raised safety concerns for riders. Queen City News
- ➤ County commissioners will hear public input and vote on forming a new Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority in a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. If the proposal is approved, residents may apply to serve on the authority from Sept. 17–Oct. 13 and voters will decide on a 1% sales tax increase for transportation projects on Nov. 4. - ➤ Mecklenburg County Public Health launches a 16-week fitness challenge called MeckMoves that will begin with a free biometric screening event, MeckCheck, on Oct. 11 at the McCrorey YMCA at 3801 Beatties Ford Road plus interactive stations and cooking demos will be offered to anyone 18 or older who attends the screening.
