CULTURE NEWS

  • Oktoberfest celebrations around Lake Norman begin today at 760 Craft Works in Huntersville with a Hand Crafted Market from 2 to 7 p.m. and live music from a polka band; local residents can also look forward to a Primal Brewing event on Sept. 27 featuring stein contests and traditional brews — adding more festive options for the community — as similar events take place in nearby towns.  Cornelius Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The N.C. Department of Transportation has launched the 2025 Fall Litter Sweep today through Sept. 27 to help volunteers remove trash from state roads—volunteers receive supplies from local county maintenance offices and the effort supports the Great American Cleanup.  Cornelius Today

  • Dr. Angelia Riggsbee, former business director at MCSO, is suing Sheriff Garry McFadden for wrongful termination and alleged retaliation—she filed the lawsuit after a disputed decision and the case is ongoing.  WCNC
  • Cornelius mayoral candidates participated in a Q&A on Sept. 12 that detailed their plans for park bonds, affordable housing, and transportation improvements, part of a competitive race. They will face voters on Tuesday, November 4 with early voting starting October 16 – each candidate outlined how their proposals will shape the town's future.  Cornelius Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Stein announced that pharmacies in North Carolina will soon offer a COVID-19 vaccine without a prescription to eligible patients — a change meant to expand access to vaccination. The new policy will allow more residents to receive the vaccine without needing a doctor's note.  WCNC
  • North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein directed state health officials to allow eligible adults and seniors to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at pharmacies without a prescription—this change follows the FDA's recent approval and aims to boost access as the cold and flu season nears.  Queen City News
