  • Sheriff Garry McFadden discussed mental health and addressed the investigation into a light rail stabbing during an interview with WCNC Charlotte’s Bria Smith.  WCNC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Anne Springs Close Greenway will host the Boil, Brew & ‘Que festival on Saturday, October 18 — a family-friendly event with smoky BBQ, craft brews, live music and fun activities by Lake Haigler. VIP tickets offer a Lowcountry boil and extra perks while ticket sales support local youth scholarships.  WCNC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Laura Budd urged a bipartisan approach to criminal justice reform during a Monday press conference at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, saying local leaders must work together—she proposed funding extra police and crisis responders while GOP leaders pushed their own plan as the legislative session opens one week from today in Raleigh.  WSOCTV.com
  • State Rep. Laura Budd held a press conference in Mecklenburg County to talk about transit and public safety—WCNC Charlotte’s Jesse Pierre explained her remarks. Budd said she will keep working to make transit safer.  WCNC
  • Today at 6 p.m., the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners will meet at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center to hear public input and vote on forming a Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority as part of a ballot measure. If approved, residents can apply for membership from Sept. 17 until Oct. 13, and a 1% sales tax increase—if passed—will pay for roads, rail and buses.  Cornelius Today
