- ➤ Huntersville will host its 10th Annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony on November 8th; the parade will start at 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m.—this year honors the 250th Anniversary of America’s Army, Navy and Marine Corps, celebrating 250 years of service. - ➤ The Carolina Renaissance Festival will return to Huntersville for its 32nd season, running eight weekends from Oct. 4 to Nov. 23 with medieval shows, jousting tournaments, and an artisan marketplace — visitors can also enjoy Bird of Prey presentations and hearty foods like giant turkey legs. - ➤ The Lake Norman Empowerment Festival took place on Sept. 17 at Smithville Park—starting at 5 p.m.—in its 19th year and featured gospel performances by John P. - ➤ Mecklenburg County adopted a voluntary agricultural district ordinance to protect farmland and support local farmers. Bona fide farms can apply for a 10-year conservation agreement and join an Advisory Board to help manage nonfarm development—applications are now open. Mecklenburg County News
- ➤ Mecklenburg County commissioners voted to authorize the creation of the Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority if voters pass a one-percent countywide sales tax in November to fund transit and roadway projects—this decision comes amid safety concerns after a recent Blue Line incident. Board applications open on Sept. 17 and the board will be formed by December, with the authority required to be established by Jan. 1. WCNC
- ➤ Recent data shows NC DMV wait times ranged from 12 minutes to over five hours during a 28-day period ending September 8 — the Huntersville office recorded a wait of 1 hour and 40 minutes while the Cary office experienced delays of 5 hours and 10 minutes. DMV officials said staffing differences are causing longer waits and they plan to hire additional license examiners to better staff current and new offices. WSOCTV.com
