COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ More than 800 volunteers packed 16,000 food boxes in Charlotte on Wednesday morning to help families in Western North Carolina recovering from Hurricane Helene + many boxes will serve mobile pantries in Mecklenburg County. CEO Kay Carter said 1,800 boxes, a tractor-trailer load, will be delivered today + Channel 9 will travel today to meet recipients and report their challenges. WSOCTV.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Engineers, surveyors, geologists and biologists will review properties and place markers by streams and wetlands along N.C. 115 from McCord Road to N.C. 73 to support a project to widen the road. Letters have been sent to residents and Town officials say the gathered data will help reduce environmental impact. City of Huntersville
- ➤ Town Planning Director Brian Richards presented a report on Sept. 16 showing that Huntersville transformed from a town of 13,000 to a fast-growing community shaped by a 1996 zoning code — over 11,500 single-family homes and 8,000 multifamily units were built in the past 25 years. The report detailed upcoming projects — nearly 2,000 single-family houses, 250 townhomes, and 3,400 multifamily units — that align with future plans outlined in the 2030 and 2040 community plans. - ➤ Rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald helped the Panthers win 30-0 against the Falcons on Sunday with his experimental kicks and perfect conversion of field goals and extra points—his squib-style kickoffs pushed opponents to start drives deep in their territory.
