GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 30, mayoral and town board candidates filled Cornelius Town Hall during the Lake Norman Chamber election forum—70 residents submitted questions about sales tax, road funding, affordable housing, and downtown growth. All nine candidates answered questions on issues that affect the region ahead of upcoming decisions.  Cornelius Today
  • North Carolina Governor Josh Stein endorsed a proposal to add a one cent sales tax for transit in Mecklenburg County — a change that will direct one cent of every dollar toward public transportation projects. Officials have approved placing the measure on the November ballot.  WSOCTV.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Castlebridge Residential Development has acquired seventeen acres on Reese Boulevard for a mixed-use project that will include over 100 townhomes, shops, and medical offices in Huntersville — the development is set to provide new housing and services in the area.  WSOCTV.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Race fans can buy tickets now for the Bank of America ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with the race set to begin at 3 p.m. on Oct. 5. The NASCAR Cup Series playoff race will feature a 2.28-mile course with 17 turns and fan events such as pre-race concerts and driver appearances—promising an afternoon of high-intensity racing.  WCNC
  • Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said the team missed key opportunities against New England as the Patriots made nine explosive plays while Carolina managed just three, leading to a 42-13 loss — the coach noted that improvements in both offense and defense will be a focus before they face the Miami Dolphins at home on Sunday.  WCNC
