  • The Huntersville Police Department mourns officer Tommy Harvey who died unexpectedly Tuesday night; he began his nearly 40-year career in law enforcement in 1987 with Hartford and served with several agencies before joining HPD in 2021—no funeral plans have been announced.  WSOCTV.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Duke Energy released its 20-year plan to meet North Carolina's energy needs by delaying the retirement of three coal plants + increasing its natural gas and nuclear power capacity, following state changes to emissions targets. The plan aims to keep power reliable and affordable while working toward net zero emissions by 2050.  WSOCTV.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Mecklenburg County’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program is offering free and low-cost breast exams—mammograms and pap tests—to uninsured women who meet income requirements. Early detection through these screenings saves lives as more than 13,100 women in NC are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.  Mecklenburg County News

  • The Bank of America ROVAL 400 will take place this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET at Charlotte Motor Speedway and will be the final race in the NASCAR Playoffs Round of 12—fans will see pre-race concerts, driver appearances, and a Windows of Hope campaign to support local breast cancer groups.  WCNC
