  • Opus completed the 131,000-square-foot Huntersville Commerce Center at The Park – Huntersville on Oct. 2, and Colliers began leasing the building; the property is located at 13601 Reese Boulevard—just south of Gilead Road and marks Opus’ first project in the greater Charlotte market as it expands in the Southeast.  Cornelius Today
  • A new survey shows that Cook Out is the favorite fast food chain in North Carolina—residents picked it over Chick-fil-A. In contrast, survey results reveal that South Carolina residents prefer Chick-fil-A.  WCNC

  • Davidson College ranked among the top ten best US colleges in the Wall Street Journal list—this ranking shows the school prepared students well for financial success.  WCNC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden said House Bill 307—known as Iryna’s Law—lacks support needed to cover expected overtime and additional mental health services, and he urged lawmakers to ensure proper detention of violent offenders. The bill, which would eliminate cashless bail and add funding for ten new assistant district attorneys, is awaiting Governor Josh Stein’s signature today.  WSOCTV.com
  • Gov. Josh Stein signed a bill on Tuesday that lets drivers renew their licenses remotely—saving them time by avoiding DMV lines. The law also changes renewal rules for REAL ID holders and removes the driver’s log requirement for 16- and 17-year-olds.  WSOCTV.com
  • A new North Carolina law stops neighbors from complaining about race track noise within a 3-mile area—tracks with a valid permit and long-term operation are protected. The law passed in September and Gov. Josh Stein approved it.  WCNC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors are urging early flu testing and vaccinations to combat rising cases this season—residents are encouraged to act promptly to protect their health.  WCNC

SPORTS NEWS

  • NASCAR driver Erik Jones joined 135 breast cancer survivors and supporters on Sept. 30 to paint the pit wall pink at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with fellow drivers Ross Chastain, Noah Gragson and Cole Custer also taking part—an event launched in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink window nets will feature on racecars in Sunday's playoff race, and drivers will sign them after the race to help raise funds for cancer support.  WBTV
