- ➤ The Coach Lee Rose Foundation will hold its annual fundraiser, An Evening with the Coach, tonight at Halton Arena at UNC Charlotte to support underserved youth—featuring five-time Grammy Award winning Jeffrey Steele and directing half the proceeds to Joni and Friends. WCNC
- ➤ Girl Scout Troops 864 and 2303 will host a food drive this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the corner of Jetton Road and Peninsula Club Drive to benefit the Ada Jenkins Food Pantry – the troops aim to collect 1,000 pounds of packaged or canned food and also accept cash or check donations. - ➤ Huntersville’s First Responders Park has received a $500,000 grant to be built on the remaining land of Fire Station #4. The planned park will include a splash pad, pickleball courts, a playground, open lawn, shelters and trails — designed to boost local recreation — with construction set to begin soon. - ➤ Town commissioners approved the purchase of a 9-acre site on N.C. 73 near Blythe Landing on Tuesday for new Fire Station No. 2 to replace the aging 1967 station on Beatties Ford Road that has expansion challenges from power lines—the property cost is $900,095 and construction dates have not been announced. - ➤ Commissioners said Iryna’s Law provides $1.6 million in recurring funds, $37,000 in nonrecurring funds and funding for five full-time legal assistants to hire 10 new assistant district attorneys in Mecklenburg County — the law, signed last Friday by Gov. Josh Stein, is named for Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee fatally stabbed on the light rail. WSOCTV.com
