  • A Lake Norman non-profit, Love Our Veterans, celebrated its 100th military veteran with its first Vocals for Veterans event at The Turn in Denver, offering music, games, and donations to help local veterans. The group will return to Denver today from noon—7 p.m.  WSOCTV.com

  • Students at Barnette Elementary cheered on their classmate Ella (who has a rare disease) as she finished a fun run in her walker.  WCNC
  • The CMS school choice lottery opens Monday — families can apply for magnet and specialized programs in the district.  WCNC

HEALTH NEWS

  • UNC researchers found mislabeled shark meat sold in local and eastern stores may include endangered species after testing 29 samples collected from North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Washington, D.C.—the study revealed 11 shark species, with three critically endangered and large hammerhead sharks that pose health risks due to high mercury levels. The findings call for clearer labeling on seafood to protect consumers and endangered marine life.  Queen City News
