  • Backstage has compiled a list of casting calls for movies and TV shows in Charlotte — including feature films, scripted shows, documentaries, and short films — with roles ranging from leads to supporting parts and hourly rates from $12 to $75.   • Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials are considering new rules for using artificial intelligence in classrooms — a move that will shape how these tools are used in education.  Queen City News

  • Just one month ago, 49 gallons of wastewater spilled into Lake Norman—an avoidable sewage backup caused the spill.  WCNC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mecklenburg County’s Board of County Commissioners declared October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and set Oct. 12 as Domestic Violence Survivors Day, and residents joined an Empowerment Walk led by survivor Shanté Cotton + partner groups to share their experiences. Authorities reported that intimate partner abuse affects many and noted 11 related homicides in 2024, up from six in 2023 and two in 2022.  Mecklenburg County News
  • A state auditor report found that more than 20% of food benefit payments in Mecklenburg County were delayed over the past three years — one in five recipients did not receive benefits on time. The report noted that Stanly County had a 14% delay rate and recommended that state officials improve oversight to meet federal on-time standards.  WSOCTV.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mecklenburg County Public Health is urging parents to update their children’s immunizations as a measles outbreak in Spartanburg County has led to eight confirmed cases and more than 150 unvaccinated children in quarantine. Healthcare providers and schools are advised to watch for measles symptoms (fever, runny nose, cough, rash, and red eyes) to quickly isolate potential cases.  Mecklenburg County News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Truist Championship is accepting volunteer signups for its 2026 tournament—volunteers will help run one of golf’s biggest events. The program gives locals a chance to support the tournament and be part of the action.  WCNC
  • NASCAR drivers including Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano will be jailed at Boatyard Lake Norman on Oct. 22 to raise funds for the Brienne Davis Memorial Scholarship—this event supports women pursuing technical careers in motorsports and will feature NASCAR broadcasters and a tribute band, with tickets at $50 if purchased early.  Lake Norman Publications
