  • Huntersville Parks and Recreation held a food drive at the Recreation Center from Nov. 1 to 2—fighting food insecurity in the Lake Norman area. Local officials urge residents to donate shelf-stable items and volunteer at food banks to help support neighbors in need.  Lake Norman Publications
  • FeedNC honored Rosie Bailey—aged 89 with 35 years of dedicated service—for her work feeding neighbors and organizing food drives in Lake Norman. She is now preparing to move closer to her family.  Lake Norman Publications

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Roots For Rivers program planted a new tree near Charlotte to help buffer waterways during these dry months—officials say the effort will protect streams and lakes from water loss.  WCNC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Partial SNAP benefits were loaded onto EBT cards for over 586,000 households on Friday, and state officials said full benefits—approved by the USDA—may arrive this weekend.  Queen City News
  • Mecklenburg County plans to support small businesses with Project BOAST after voters approved a sales tax increase on Nov. 4 for transportation improvements. The plan—meant to prevent displacement and offer training—will be reviewed by County Commissioners during the Fiscal Year 2027 budget process.  Mecklenburg County News
  • CATS will offer free mobile transit passes for SNAP and WIC recipients starting November 10—riders must show an EBT card or WIC voucher and valid ID.  WCNC
  • Registration for the Newsmakers Breakfast closes Tuesday as the event titled Greenspace & Growth is set for Thursday November 13 at The Peninsula Club. The gathering will feature Troy Fitzsimmons, Parks & Recreation Executive Director, with networking at 7:15 a.m., a country breakfast at 7:30 a.m., and a Q&A from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. for $16.  Cornelius Today
  • Local leaders and Nourish Up are helping Mecklenburg County families get food during a government shutdown that has now lasted 37 days—rising demand at food pantries shows many residents need support. Officials say efforts are increasing to meet the growing need for food assistance.  WCNC

  • Foxcroft Food + Wine in Birkdale Village will launch its first weekly brunch tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. The menu will feature dishes like smoked salmon with jammy eggs + horseradish-caper sauce, chicken and waffles with pimento cheese + hot honey syrup, house-made donuts, and specialty drinks including mimosa flights and bloody marys.  Cornelius Today
