  • A busy week is underway around Lake Norman as local venues host events from Monday’s Open Mic Night at OTPH and Family Feud at LKN Brewery to a Veterans Day Program in Cornelius and a Sip and Paint Your Pet event in Huntersville.   • This weekend, the Nourish Up emergency food drive collected about 6,000 pounds of food & provided enough meals for nearly 2,000 families in need in Huntersville.  WCNC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Homeowners in Mecklenburg County have until Nov. 21 to apply for the HOMES economic assistance program, which offers grants of up to $650 and an extra $534 for Davidson residents. The one-page application requires proof of three years' home ownership and qualifying income (over 9,000 applications have been received) (more than $2.6 million in grants have been awarded since July 1), so residents should apply soon.  Mecklenburg County News
  • Lawmakers reached a tentative deal in Washington to fund the government at its current rate through Jan. 30 and to keep SNAP benefits running through next September, but travelers at Charlotte Douglas are still facing flight cancellations and delays as the FAA cuts flights due to staffing issues—plans remain uncertain ahead of the busy holiday period.  WCNC

  • Consumer Reports advises Huntersville homeowners to insulate exposed pipes, check roofs and gutters, and schedule service for chimneys and furnaces to avoid expensive winter repairs. The report also recommends locating water shutoff valves to quickly stop leaks if they occur.  WSOCTV.com

  • Panthers head coach Dave Canales rethought the Victory Monday plan after the team lost 17-7 to the Saints—he said a bad practice earlier in the week may have hurt their performance.
