COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Centralina Regional Council is inviting new nonprofits to apply as a Regional Non-Profit PILOT Partner in the North Mecklenburg County Housing Preservation Initiative — the selected organization will receive $50,000 in federal funding to support home repairs in Cornelius, Davidson — and Huntersville. This opportunity will help expand affordable housing services and strengthen local neighborhoods.  City of Huntersville
  • Mecklenburg County will celebrate National Adoption Day on Nov. 22nd at 10 a.m. at the Courthouse as 89 youth adopted through Youth and Family Services are recognized. District Court Judge C. Renee Little will preside over the ceremony—featuring DC Comics and Marvel superheroes—and families will then enjoy carnival games and treats outdoors.  Mecklenburg County News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Several local restaurants are offering ready-made Thanksgiving meals for families not wanting to cook at home. Torrence and Knox in Shops on the Green offer a holiday meal package—orders must be placed by November 20 while Midwood Smokehouse, Macs Speed Shop and Firebirds provide other options with orders available through November 25 for pickup on or before Thanksgiving.  Cornelius Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lake Norman Charter won the 4A state girls golf championship by 13 strokes in a rain-shortened event at Longleaf Golf and Family Club in Southern Pines — all four players shot 95 or better among a field of 44 golfers. Head coach Ryan Hoffer said the team’s focus on mental toughness and support helped turn a near miss last year into a clear victory.  Lake Norman Publications
  • On November 14, Hough advanced in the second-round playoffs with a 63-7 win over Palisades as junior quarterback Ethan Royal opened the game with a 47-yard run and Jamarion Morrison scored multiple touchdowns—setting the tone for the Huskies. They will face the winner of West Forsyth and Mallard Creek in the third round.  Cornelius Today
  • The Pine Lake Prep boys soccer team beat Piedmont Community Charter 3-1 in the 3A state playoffs on Tuesday night, advancing to the Final Four for the first time since 2021 — the team showed strong defense and key plays from senior captain Will Harris. They will take a bus on Tuesday, November 18 to face No. 1 Polk County as the winner will move on to the state championship at Guilford College — a crucial step in their season.  Lake Norman Publications
  • On Nov. 14, Hough won a playoff game against Palisades by a final score of 63-7 and advanced to the next round.
