- ➤ The National Weather Service has paused translating weather alerts into non-English languages—leaving many in the eight-county Charlotte region, where the Hispanic population grew 50% since 2010, at risk during severe weather. Queen City News
- ➤ NC Rep. Tricia Cotham filed House Bill 948 in Raleigh on April 11, which would use a one-cent sales tax increase to pay for road improvements and public transit projects—a plan expected to generate $19.4 billion over 30 years by splitting funds 40 percent for roads and 60 percent for transit, including a proposed commuter rail from Uptown Charlotte to Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson that may extend to Mount Mourne. Local managers from nearby areas praised the move—though some worry that the rail project's cost estimate has grown to $1.38 billion from $640 million. Cornelius Today
