EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ North Carolina lawmakers advanced House Bill 121 — which would remove the 2004 rule requiring schools to start by the Monday near Aug. 26 and to end by the Friday near June 11 — allowing school boards to set their own school-year calendars. WCNC
- ➤ A new national report showed North Carolina teachers ranked 43rd in pay with average salaries just below the minimum living wage—starting pay is $42,542. Lawmakers and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board are working to address the issue, and if House Bill 192 passes, educators may receive raises up to $12,280. WCNC
