  • Mecklenburg County residents are invited to join the third annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Walk on June 11 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Freedom Park in Charlotte — community leaders including Russ Ferguson will help raise awareness of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.  Mecklenburg County News

  • On May 28, DTFS chose Ballantyne for its North American headquarters and created 276 jobs with an investment of over $7 million (average salary above $130,000). AVL Manufacturing will open a mobile machine plant in Steele Creek that will add more than 325 jobs with a $56 million investment (average salary around $76,052).  Business Today NC
  • On May 28, Daimler Truck Financial Services set up its North American headquarters in Ballantyne, creating 276 jobs and investing more than $7 million—while AVL Manufacturing opened its first U.S. mobile machine manufacturing plant in Steele Creek, adding over 325 jobs with average salaries above $76,000 and $130,000. Together, the companies brought more than 500 new jobs to Mecklenburg County.  Business Today NC

  • On May29, Chicago Rewired performed at LangTree Live in Mooresville where attendees brought chairs and blankets, and today Untethered Soul is performing at Live Under the Oaks at The Plaza in Huntersville with the same casual setup. On May31, The Coasters will deliver a doo-wop show at Cain Center For The Arts — tickets cost $45 — while The Crazy Pig in Davidson hosts live music and the Davidson Farmers Market runs every Saturday through Thanksgiving.  Cornelius Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Andrew Sileo, a certified arborist for the Town of Davidson, will provide tree care advice in Huntersville on June 12, June 26, July 10 and July 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.—residents can request help with planting, pruning, and identifying tree diseases through a pilot program.  City of Huntersville

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Metropolitan Transit Commission voted May 29 to adopt a 30-year Transit System Plan that prioritizes the Better Bus program, microtransit, and rapid transit to Lake Norman. The plan increases bus service by 50 percent and adds 43 more miles of rail while it depends on passing a penny sales tax.  Cornelius Today
