On April 30, Mecklenburg County recorded 2,415 homeless individuals including 444 living unsheltered—a 16% rise identified during the annual count on Jan.
22. The survey also found 1,657 people in shelters from 1,320 households, with a slight decline due to fewer available shelter beds.
This week, community events include the North Meck Farmers Market on Wednesday, June 11 from 9 am to noon behind Cornelius Town Hall and Ladies Night Out on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at Birkdale Village in Huntersville with an after-party from 6 to 8 pm.
Additional activities are Carolina Barbeque on Friday at Splendor Pond Flower Farm featuring live music and a tournament, Movies in the Park showing Moana 2 in downtown Huntersville, Davidson Farmers Market and a house show on a dock in Cornelius on Saturday, a history event at Historic Cedar Grove on June 14, and Concert on the Green by Band of Oz on Sunday — with more events listed for later in the week.
🚨 Crime
North Carolina drivers have reported scam texts claiming they owe traffic fines, but Attorney General Jeff Jackson warned that these messages are scams—government agencies never send texts demanding payment—and the FTC advises recipients to forward suspicious texts to 7726.
