- ➤ Mike Bryant took over as Mecklenburg County manager on June 30 and plans to use a performance scorecard to track spending and program results—he also discussed a 1-cent sales tax referendum vote scheduled for August 6—to guide county investments and strengthen work with city leaders amid budget challenges. - ➤ Queen City News legal analyst Khalif Rhodes said fireworks legal in South Carolina could lead to fines or jail time in North Carolina, and he urged residents to follow state rules during recent Fourth of July celebrations — a reminder of the differences in local laws. Queen City News
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Developers in the Charlotte area will soon break ground on new apartment complexes; Panorama Holdings will start building 434 market-rate units near uptown, and SunCap Property Group will launch a 199-unit project with retail and office space in Dilworth. A 357-home community is also planned in Huntersville by Toll Brothers using nearly 94 acres (as part of regional developments that include affordable housing in east Charlotte). WSOCTV.com
