  • A variety of events will take place in the area from July 17 to July 27, featuring live music, film screenings, farmers markets and community gatherings across Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson. EDUCATION NEWS

  • On July 17, MECK Pre-K registered more than 1,830 children for next school year, setting a record for the free pre-K program for four-year-olds. The Board approved funding for 10 new classrooms to boost capacity + families can still enroll.  Cornelius Today
  • Bill Fountain, a retired Air Force officer and former teacher from Cornelius, filed his candidacy for the District 1 seat on the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Board — which covers Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson and parts of North Charlotte—against incumbent Melissa Easley among nine candidates. Filing for the municipal elections will end today at noon.  Cornelius Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden said his department continued to focus on protecting and defending all residents even as a House bill was proposed that would require deputies to work with ICE. He stressed that the department’s priority remains community safety—reinforcing its commitment to local service.  WCNC
