The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said yesterday that K-9 Cali died after serving over seven years on the Airport Unit, where she helped seize more than 23,000 pounds of drugs and $8 million in drug trafficking.

Residents can use their smartphone cameras to scan QR code placards at historic sites across Mecklenburg county (including Huntersville Rosenwald School #2) to learn local history.

More than 35 placards are placed at 14 landmarks and the school will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sept. 20.

The Mecklenburg County Clerk’s Office is asking residents to apply for two vacancies on the Lake Norman Marine Commission that will oversee lake recreation, water quality and safety.

Representatives from Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties will each choose two members—one with a four-year term and one with a five-year term—and the commission will meet monthly at 7 p.m. on the second Monday at the Charles Mack Center in Mooresville.
