- ➤ UNC researchers found mislabeled shark meat sold in local and eastern stores may include endangered species after testing 29 samples collected from North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Washington, D.C.—the study revealed 11 shark species, with three critically endangered and large hammerhead sharks that pose health risks due to high mercury levels. The findings call for clearer labeling on seafood to protect consumers and endangered marine life. Queen City News
